Alpengasthaus Griesner Alm

Our Story

The Griesner Alm, a place that has been in our family for generations, carries the memories and values of our ancestors. Our grandma Nani and grandpa Friedl managed the Alm starting around 1950, living by the motto: "If the guests are happy, we are happy too." This hospitality shaped their lives and forms the foundation on which we stand today.

More than 100 years ago, hikers and mountaineers were already exploring the majestic peaks of the Wilder Kaiser. Back then, when the Griesner Alm was still a modest alpine hut, Nani and Friedl offered passersby what they had. It wasn't about abundance, but rather about shared hours in the company of friends and family.

This way of life was carried on after being handed over to their son Fritz in 1982. Together with his wife Marianne, he operated the alpine inn until 2020 with the awareness that hospitality is the heart of the Griesner Alm.

In 2020, their daughter Johanna and her partner René took over the Griesner Alm. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for them, as the Alm was completely destroyed by a major fire in February 2021. Nothing remained except for a few keepsakes. Yet, the memory of the values of parents and grandparents remained strong—the conviction that only hospitality matters, regardless of external circumstances.

Thanks to the tireless support of family, friends, and acquaintances, we found the strength to rebuild the inn. In just two years, we were able to complete most of the work.

Perfection is not our goal. What matters are the precious moments with the people we love. The true art lies in recognizing and enjoying these moments, for ultimately, it is these memories that make the Griesner Alm what it is—a place of hospitality, gathering, and living life to the fullest.
