Tour information

After the drive (MTB No. 204) to Aschau in the Spertental valley, we continue straight ahead at the Kneipp facility and reach the ‘Unterer Grund’ via an asphalt road. We pass the suspension bridge and turn left at Kasplatzl. From now on, we follow the Rettensteinrunde trail on gravel paths, some of which are steep, uphill. At the ‘Schöntal’ fork, we keep left (variant 3) and reach the Hirzeggalm, a wonderful place to stop for refreshments. There we begin the circular hike to the Spießnägeln (signposted No. 20). Beautiful alpine flowers and a great view of the Großer Rettenstein now await us. After the circular hike, we either take the same route back on our bikes. Or we continue on option 2 at the fork in the road – with a detour to the Schöntalgraben or ‘just’ downhill to the Karalm and then via the lower valley out of the valley to Aschau/Kirchberg.

  • We begin the mountain tour at a leisurely pace, but still uphill, on the wide tractor path (signposted no. 20). At the fork in the path, we can keep to the right or left – it doesn't matter, as both paths lead to the summit of the Spießnägel (1,880 m). This makes for a beautiful, varied circular tour via the Hirzegglacke!
  • The starting point and destination of this extensive circular tour is the hamlet of Aschau in Kirchberg i.T. – with various places to stop for refreshments. At the start of the tour, you cycle along a paved road through the Spertental nature reserve in the lower valley towards Kasplatzl/Labalm (MTB No. 204 Variant 3). The slightly uphill route leads along the river, past alpine meadows and a waterfall with a suspension bridge. At ‘Kasplatzl’ we turn left and pass Kasplatzl, continuing along the good but sometimes steep gravel path to the Schöntalalm junction. Here, variants 2 (Schöntalalm) and 3 (Rettensteinrunde - Hirzeggalm) split. We follow the Rettensteinrunde (variant 3) to the Hirzeggalm. Above, we park our bikes and lock them up. We take the same route for the return journey. However, at the fork in the path to the Hirzeggalm, you also have the option of continuing on variant 2. You can ride into the Schöntal valley or just descend into the lower valley towards the Karalm.
